As summer comes to an end, it's time to think about preparing your car for the fall season. Once this is done, the transition to the winter season will be easier.
So where do we start?
The first step is to check the general technical condition of the car. As the evenings begin to darken more quickly, you should always check that all your lights are on and may need to be adjusted to ensure good visibility of the road. Given that the likelihood of rain will increase in the fall, it is very important that the windshield wiper blades do their job well. So, if the inspection reveals that they are worn, replace them. Make sure the fluids are ok: check the brake fluid and engine oil levels. Don’t forget about the glass washer; it makes sense to fill in the winter washer, since at night the temperature will drop below “0”.
The second thing is to start adapting. The weather will become changeable; rain will form large puddles, and wind will blow leaves fr om trees onto the roadway, which may cause the road to become slippery. Do not forget: on such a road surface, the braking distance becomes longer, and also when turning the road, lateral slips are possible and the car is more difficult to control. Start assessing the situation and choose a speed that suits the weather.
Thirdly, be careful outside populated areas and at night. Autumn is the period when forest animals appear on the roads most intensively. If they can be noticed in time during daylight hours, in the evening and night hours this is problematic. Twilight itself requires you to be careful on the road, but if there is a car coming towards you, then you should be especially careful, because the lights of the oncoming car can blind you, and you may not notice animals or other obstacles on the road in time. Focus on the road, and not on the people sitting next to you in the car.
Fourth is the choice of tires. We don't wear summer shoes anymore in the fall, do we? It’s the same with cars - autumn is the time of year when driving on summer tires becomes unsafe, so you’ll have to think about all-season or winter tires. The choice of tires is quite wide: all-season, winter, and studded, all you have to do is to choose those that are right for you. Remember that winter wheels are mandatory from December 1st. Studded tires are allowed from October 1. Tire tread must be at least 4 mm. So that winter does not present surprises to the unprepared, to avoid possible accidents and unnecessary stress, and also to avoid having to stand in long lines at the car service center to change tires at the last minute - think about this in time.
